M&E Validation Surveys
Date of Completion
Working on behalf of British Land in association with M3 Consulting and Arups, Banyards have been engaged by Sir Robert McAlpine to undertake the MEP validation survey at 1 Finsbury Avenue.
The office building constructed in 1982-84 and designed by Arup Associates, was a milestone in the development of office design in Britain and widely acclaimed. Awards included the Financial Times Architecture at Work Award 1985, the Structural Steel Design Award 1985 and in 1987 the RIBA London Regional Award.
No 1 Finsbury Avenue, listed in 2015, remains one of the most admired post-war buildings in the City. The Architectural Review commented that the project “proved that spec offices can make a sensitive contribution to a civic environment and that even a huge office building can have a richness and delicate scale suggestive of the human beings who work within”.
The sensitive restoration and upgrades of the 281,000 sq ft office building will cost an estimated £102m and include the addition of two new office floors, enclosed plant room and an upgrade to the facade. Internally the proposals entail reconfigured office cores and floor-plates, including new lifts, plant and MEPH throughout, and central atrium.
