ELEX Insights: Banyards on the Ground

Attending the ELEX Electrical Show at Alexandra Palace was a great opportunity to immerse ourselves in the latest developments across the electrical industry. Representing Banyards, electrical engineers Hamza Elmi, Jay Matthews and Lawrence Joels attended the event, taking full advantage of everything on offer across the day.

The event brought together a wide range of manufacturers, suppliers and industry bodies, creating a busy and energetic environment with plenty to see and explore. From the newest testing equipment and installation tools through to emerging technologies and smarter ways of working, there was a real sense of how quickly the sector continues to evolve.

The exhibition floor offered a strong mix of well-known brands and newer entrants, all showcasing innovations aimed at improving efficiency, safety and compliance on projects. It was particularly useful to see products demonstrated first-hand, allowing the team to better understand how they perform in practice and where they could add value on live projects. The event also provided a great platform to catch up with others in the industry, exchange ideas and discuss common challenges, particularly around compliance, reporting and evolving standards.

During the visit, the team attended a NAPIT seminar focused on the different outcomes for observations identified during an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). The session was highly engaging, making use of an interactive app that encouraged participation and discussion around real-life scenarios. This practical approach helped reinforce best practice when classifying observations and highlighted the importance of consistency in reporting.

Following the seminar, they spent time speaking directly with NAPIT representatives about recent industry updates and shared a number of suggestions for software improvements. These conversations provided valuable insight into how compliance requirements are developing and how digital tools are adapting to support more robust and efficient reporting processes.

Alongside the technical content, the event also had a lighter side, with a number of electrical competitions and challenges running throughout the day. The team took part for a bit of fun (and the chance to win a few prizes), which added to the overall atmosphere and made the experience even more enjoyable.

Overall, the day proved to be a worthwhile visit, offering a strong combination of technical learning, industry insight and networking, helping ensure Banyards continues to stay up to date with the latest developments and bring informed, practical expertise to projects.
