Banyards new charity for 2025/2026

We are thrilled to announce that after a thoughtful and inclusive nomination process, our chosen charity for 2025/2026 is DEBRA (Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association).

Why DEBRA?

DEBRA is the national charity that supports individuals and families affected by Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a rare and extremely painful genetic condition that causes the skin to blister and tear at the slightest touch. Living with EB is often described as living with constant third-degree burns. The charity’s work focuses on:

  • Funding pioneering research to find treatments and ultimately a cure.
  • Providing care and support services to improve the quality of life for those living with EB and their families.
  • Raising awareness to increase understanding and drive change for people affected by this life-limiting condition.

For more information on the incredible work DEBRA does, visit their official website at www.debra.org.uk.

A Personal Connection

DEBRA was nominated by Stuart Wooden, whose personal connection to the charity makes this choice especially meaningful. Stuart’s wife and two children live with EB, and his family has been actively fundraising for DEBRA over the years to support research and care. Stuart shared his thoughts on why this charity means so much:

“Living with EB is unimaginably tough, but the support from DEBRA makes a world of difference. Knowing that people care and are willing to help is a huge boost to our family and others in the same situation. I’m incredibly proud that Banyards has chosen to stand with DEBRA and help make a real impact.”

Why We Chose DEBRA

Choosing DEBRA as our charity partner reflects not only the heartfelt connection within our team but also our commitment to supporting causes that have a profound impact on individuals and families. The decision followed a process where our people submitted nominations, each linked to a story or personal experience.

Other shortlisted charities included:

  • World Vision – Supporting education in developing countries.
  • Make-A-Wish Foundation UK – Granting wishes for terminally ill children.
  • The Sick Children’s Trust – Providing ‘Homes from Home’ for families of sick children.
  • Springhill Hospice – Offering compassionate palliative care.
  • Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) – Saving lives at sea through volunteer rescue services.
  • Breast Cancer Now – Funding breast cancer research and support.

Our Fundraising Goal: £2,500

We have set an ambitious but achievable goal to raise £2,500 over the next year to support this vital cause and this will go directly to DEBRA to fund ongoing research and support initiatives. To achieve this goal, we will be organizing various fundraising events, including sponsored activities, charity challenges, and more.

Get Involved

We encourage all team members to join in, whether by participating in events, making a donation, or spreading the word about DEBRA’s important work. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by EB.
