We are proud to be supporting Integrated Health Projects (Vinci Construction UK and Sir Robert McAlpine joint venture) with Commissioning management services on two further hospitals being Douglas Bennett House (DBH) and Children and Young Persons (CYP) Mental Healthcare Facility at the South London and Maudsley (SLaM) Hospital campus. This is in addition to another live IHP project in the North West at the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Banyards have built an excellent working relationship with IHP having previously also delivered Commissioning services at St Ann’s Hospital in Tottenham.
Douglas Bennett House
Opening in 2023, the new £50M purpose-built mental health inpatient building located on Windsor Walk backs on to the South London and Maudsley Hospital campus and will house acute adult inpatient services including four specialist wards and a psychiatric intensive care unit, all currently based in outdated facilities at Lambeth Hospital.
The new inpatients facility has been co-designed by patients, carers, clinicians, and specialist architects working together to create a modern environment for patients and staff to achieve the following benefits:
Purpose-built, specially configured wards, designed for service users’ needs.
Individual, ensuite bathrooms for bedrooms and more assisted bathrooms.
Direct, unsupervised access to large balconies, a roof garden and courtyards landscaped with trees, seating and raised beds for therapeutic gardening.
Better sightlines within wards to help people feel safe.
Digital innovation to improve entry to, and exit from, bedrooms and other areas to ensure people using the services have more control over their personal space.
Specifically allocated private office and lounge spaces for staff.
A more therapeutic environment with access to a range of therapy and treatment rooms, quiet rooms, family rooms and multifaith spaces.
Children and Young Persons (CYP) Mental Healthcare Facility
The new £50M purpose-built facility, which will be known as the Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People’s Mental Health, will bring together world leading experts in clinical care and research from the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) and King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN).
With floor space totalling 9,100m2 spread over 8 floors, the new CYP facility will enable clinicians and scientists to collaborate and identify treatments for the lives of children, young people, and their families.
Key design feature employs multiple external roof terraces with the tiered design enhancing movement of natural daylight into all areas.
