IKEA is focused on becoming 100% renewable with technology such as solar heating, photovoltaic panels, biomass generation and rain water harvesting. These have been incorporated in a number of UK stores and it is the ambition of the company to make the IKEA store in Calcot, Reading their greenest store to-date.
Built on a four hectare site of commercial land comprising a number of retail and leisure units the new 38,000 square meter store will provide a typical IKEA offering, including a market hall, showroom and warehouse, as well as restaurant, crèche, staff facilities and customer service areas.
There will be an adjacent multi deck parking area with a total of 1,259 spaces as well as additional bus and coach areas.
Banyards have been appointed as the Clients Commissioning Validation Engineers, the main contract is due for completion in May 2016 and will be the 19th store in the UK.
