Schal’s progressive team were looking for a “smarter” Permit system to avoid the prospect of lost keys and unauthorised access. They were recommended e-permits which not only controlled keys and access but would bring a new dimension of safety to their Permit to Work process.

The e-permits system automatically highlighted potentially dangerous clashes between each new request, live permits and other concurrent requests. It also ensured that contractors carried the appropriate Risk assessment and Method statement for the work and issued them the right keys and access to the areas they needed to reach.

During the period e-permits was operated on-site, Schal were proud to announce 1,000,000 man hours worked without a time-lost incident.

At the end of the project Patrick Crotty, Project Director Schal commented:
