Schal’s progressive team were looking for a “smarter” permit system to reduce and minimise the incidence of lost keys and unauthorised access. e-permits was recommended to tighten up key access and bring a new dimension of safety to Schal’s Permit to Work process.

The e-permits system automatically highlighted potentially dangerous clashes between new requests, live permits and other concurrent requests. It also ensured that contractors carried the appropriate Risk assessment and Method statement for the work and issued them the correct keys and access to the areas they needed to reach.

During the period e-permits was operated on-site, Schal proudly announced one million man hours worked without a time-lost incident.

At the end of the project, Patrick Crotty, Schal’s Project Director commented:
