Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs: Complete refurbishment of Defra’s Headquarters

The Banyards Group have a long association with DEFRA and have undertaken a diverse range of projects, including Veterinary Laboratories, PM Rooms and specialist installations for marine research.

In 2004, a comprehensive re-build of DEFRA Whitehall Place headquarters was completed, having painstakingly retained the existing listed façade. The project achieved the RICS award for sustainability in 2005.

Banyards have had a long association with Defra and undertaken many projects as diverse as Veterinary Laboratories, PM Rooms and specialist installations for fish research.

Whitehall Place was rebuilt and completed in 2004 to retain the existing listed façade with new structure behind as a London office occupied by Defra.

The building is now to be occupied by DECC, Department of Energy and Climate Change. Banyards are employed to design the modifications to the services, which are being undertaken on a rolling floor by floor programme.

Banyards are also looking at options to improve the energy efficiency and reduce Carbon emissions in conjunction with the Carbon Trust.
